We are a young couple aged 31 and 29 looking for a BCC to take us offshore!
Sarah and I have extensive sailing experience, I have crewed on two transatlantic passages in a large gaff rigger and have approximately 27000 nautical miles crewing in different traditional vessels, schooners and square riggers, and am a Transport Canada licensed Chief Mate in vessels up to 150 tons. Sarah also has extensive sailing experience in racing keelboats and as a sailing instructor. We just need to find our gem of a boat to get us where we need to go! Don’t mind a vessel in need of rig replacement and other work but she needs to be livable and decent below decks as we plan to live aboard while we fit her out.
Not a whole lot of BCC’s on the market right now, as I’m sure you know. But there is “Minke” a 30’ Lyle Hess designed “Taleisin” sister ship that’s listed as a Falmouth Cutter. Not to be confused with the 34’ Falmouth Cutter “Astrid” that’s for sale up in BC. Anyway, the 30 footer is listed on Yacht World. It’s a cold molded hull, retractable bow sprit with free flying jib. Composting toilet. Located in CA. It’s been on the market for a while now, so would most likely accept any reasonable offer.
Thanks for the reply! That is a beautiful boat and has a retractable bowsprit which was a feature we were really wanting but haven’t seen around a lot in North America. Real shame she’s down in the states, we just can’t get down there right now with the border closures and mandatory quarantining upon return to Canada. That really looks like the perfect boat for us. It’s maddening how many great boats we’ve seen in the last year come up for sale just across the border. Hopefully this summer they will lift restrictions and there will still be a boat left for us.
